1043nd - no connection after upgrade and settings restore

Hi,
I upgraded my 1043nd (v1.8) from gargoyle 1.4.7 to 1.6.1 using the gargoyle_1.6.1-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr1043nd-v1-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin file from the downloads section
Logged in OK after the upgrade & restored settings from backup file made immediately before upgrade was performed.
After a long time (several minutes) the scrolling logo was still on the screen, but the lights had stopped flashing on the router long before. so I attempted to reload the page & then to load the router login page (i.e. go to the router IP address - I have this set as 192.168.0.1). Page cannot be reloaded.
Now I find there is no network connection. I tried setting IP on PC to 192 168.0.2 and 192.168.1.2, but cannot get a connection.
PWR & SYS lights are steady on router once it has booted, LAN connection lights come on when network cable attached & flicker when computer tries to acquire IP address if I set PC to use DHCP.
Tried telnet to the router, get "no route to address".
Any suggestions?
