Hi! I have a TP-Link wdr4300 v1 and just installed the gargoyle. It is like this:

Device Name:Gargoyle
Gargoyle Version:1.6.0
Model:TP-Link TL-WDR4300 v1
Device Configuration:Gateway
Memory Usage:25.4MB / 123.7MB (20.5%)
Connections:196/4096
CPU Load Averages:0.30 / 0.77 / 0.79 (1/5/15 minutes)

Wireless Mode:AP+WDS
2.4 GHz Access Point SSID:THEBASTOS
5GHz Access Point SSID:THEBASTOS5GHZ

I have a Seagate 2tb HD NTFS on its USB port shared. It's like this in the settings:

HDREDE /dev/sda1 / CIFS+FTP+NFS

My notebook shows the wireless signal 100% at 150mbps, but the file transfer is less than 1mbps, like in the picture attached. It took more than 30 minutes to transfer the file =/

I don't want a super speed, but at least a 5mbps transfer rate.

Am I doing something wrong?

To test what transfer rates your router would support, first do
some WIRED transfer rate testing.

That will give you your benchmark on what your router/USB HD
combo can give you as transfer rate for max speed.

Next, try a file transfer over wireless, but make sure you are
within 6 feet (2 meters) of the router to verify that it's not your
wireless signal holding you back.

Once you perform those 2 tests, you should be able to figure out
what kind of transfer rates you will get.

I have the same problem. My configuration is: Cisco/Linksys WRT160NL + Maxtor Basics 500Bg. Wired or wireless is the same behaviour.

Edit: I am using Gargoyle 1.6.1. I have noted that during a transfer the web interface become slow.

Most probably CPU is bottlenecking transfer.

CPU can be an issue, but another issue is NTFS

Gargoyle/OpenWRT is linux based

You WILL get better performance if you use EXT3/EXT4 format

You WILL get REDUCED performance using NTFS format drives

http://www.gargoyle-router.com/phpbb/vi ... f=5&t=1109

See my post there for transfer testing I did a while back

EXT3/EXT4 format is at least 2x-3x faster than NTFS

You can get Linux Live CD's (Ubuntu, Knoppix, etc)
Boot with the Live CD/DVD
Re-format your external drive to EXT4 AFTER you back it up

Also keep in mind, only the newest routers have USB3 ports
Most still have USB2 ports, so you are limited there as well
