Restoring backup...

Hi Eric,
Well, my own stupidity caused me to brick my router.
While I wait for a cable to arrive from China, I have successfully installed Gargoyle on another identical router (TL-WR1043ND). I bought two about 12 months ago, just in case.
I was on version 1.5.8, but was trying to upgrade to 1.6.0 to get the OpenVPN fixes. I backed the router up, but forgot to reset back to factory defaults before upgrading. Since I had changed the IP address....well, you get the idea.
Anyway, here is my question; can I restore a backup from 1.5.8 to 1.6.0, or should I keep it safe and configure from scratch?
