Hi, I've successfully configured my Fritzbox and Gargoyle router on the same network at the same time. Both perform their jobs perfectly. So I thought I would let you know how ...

My ethernet network connects to the Gargoyle route via its LAN ports, I also have WIFI turned ON within the Gargoyle router.
Then out of my Gargoyle WAN port I connect my fritzbox in to any one of the Fritzbox LAN ports 2, 3 or 4. (Fritzbox port 1 is reserved for its WAN connection on my Fritzbox model)
In turn the Fritzbox is connected to my cable modem from Fritzbox WAN/LAN port 1. Fritzbox WIFI is turned off

My gargoyle router is a TPLINK TL-WR1043ND, loaded with Gargoyle v1.6
My Fritzbox is a 7270.


My ethernet network runs with 1gig connections (not 100mb which was a restriction of the Fritzbox 7270)
The gargoyle router does its job perfectly and captures and monitors all wifi/network traffic which is internet bound (because I'm using its WAN port)
My Fritzbox continues to manage my VIOP calls, virtual SIP telephone number and act as a DECT base station.

Quality of Service is managed via the gargoyle not the Fritzbox

So here is how I did it, if you have any suggestions to improve or I'm missing something then let me know, but I know this configuration works flawlessly for me.

My internal network is 10.5.48.* (typically most peoples would be 192.168.0.*

What is really important is that the Fritzbox is on a different network segment, due to the WAN connection, hence I have given my fritzbox an ip address of 10.1.1.1

So my Gargoyle router is 10.5.48.1
My Fritzbox is 10.1.1.1

Network & WIFI devices <==> Gargoyle (WAN port) <===> (LAN Port) Fritzbox (Wan Port) <===> Cable Modem <===> Internet

The screenprint below is the Gargoyle connection screen.

Choose the GATEWAY OPTION
Set similar settings to what I have entered below in the WAN and LAN sections of the screenprint below.
Yes, the 10.1.1.10 is deliberate, so the Fritzbox see's the Gargoyle as this address.

It is very IMPORTANT that as well as applying your settings similar to the sample settings below, you also choose "Custom DNS Servers" and then add the ip address of your Fritzbox, in my case 10.1.1.1
otherwise your devices will NOT connect to the internet.

enable DHCP on the Gargoyle router (see below)


Below are the Network settings on my fritzbox

Once you are up and running, you can un-check the Fritzbox DHCP server option(above) , as other than the Gargoyle and your cable modem you shouldn't be connecting any other network devices either hardwired or wireless directly to the Fritzbox.
However once unchecked, you'll need to remember to assign a static address to any device you may directly connect later for trouble shooting.

This post includes the screen prints which confirms the previous post including config instructions has worked successfully.


Confirmation below, that my Fritzbox is receiving communication from my Gargoyle router
The Gargoyle Router is presented to my Fritzbox as 10.1.10 (above)

and confirmation from Gargoyle of my WAN and LAN connections (below)
As expected, my Gargoyle Router receives a WAN ip address of 10.1.1.10 (above).
To get to the internet its going to talk to 10.1.1.1 (the Fritzbox) which in turn talks to my cable modem

Finally for my all of network and WiFi, the Gargoyle appears as 10.5.48.1, it has DHCP enabled, so all my network connected devices will receive 10.5.48.* addresses between the range of 150 & 249.

My Fritzbox receives a true WAN ip address from the cable modem, I've not included screen pints


That's it ! Job Done !
