WNDR3700 v1 Help

My WNDR3700 v1 is running really bad. I have wifi dropoff and low signal throughout my house. My neighbor's signal on the other hand is sometimes stronger than my own in my house. I have no idea what router she says but it gets annoying that mine is weaker in comparison.
What firmware version should I be running (I have heard the latest .11 has some problems) and also what settings should I be looking at to get a better signal strength and quality throughout my house.
Should I disable ANI?
I also have a WRT160NL acting as a network switch right now running DDWRT, but I can reflash it with whatever and use it as a wireless AP if anyone thinks that would help.
