Hello all, I wouldn't bother anyone unless I really couldn't figure it out and well the method I've used for unbricking my DIR-601a1 is not working this time.

So after what appeared to be a successful flash upgrade from 1.5.10 to 1.5.11, upon reboot, I cannot ping the router at its default IP nor what I had it set to previously. So I followed the procedure, unplug/replug, press the reset rapidly at the amber light putting it into recovery mode. In this mode I can ping the router and telnet the 'firstboot' command which returns with:

Erasing rootfs_data ...
mount: mounting /dev/mtdblock4 on /overlay failed: Invalid argument

And I still cannot ping the router in regular mode. All lights indicate it to be okay but it is not apparent even with arp -a or networkscanner. I was trying to figure out how to TFTP 1.5.10 in recovery mode but cannot find how to do this specifically for Gargoyle using the tftp put command. Any ideas guys? Thanks for reading!

edit- after racking my brain and google, Upcock's suggestion below worked! Put it into d-link's emergency mode by holding in the button until the power light blinks amber slowly so you can access the little web page for uploading the factory version of the firmware (192.168.0.1):



And then:

if all else fails you will need to use a serial cable

Thank you for your suggestion ispyisail, when I enter uci get network.lan.ipaddr it returns Uci: Entry not found .. can I set the lan IP through here?

edit- I tried etc/init.d/network reload and it responded with Failed to connect to ubus

Damn, not even wget nor scp work. Work and go to school full time wish I had the time to solder a serial... into the trash she goes. Gargoyle is awesome in its simplicity. Was a solid little inexpensive router.

you need to turn router to emergency recovery mode to upload other firmware version, i have this issue too with my dir-615, when i trying to put version 1.5.11 on it. to turn on router in emergency, you need to turn off it,then press and hold reset button and without releasing it, connect the power cord. When power light starts blinking, that happens after about 10 seconds, release the button and then try to get in http:/192.168.0.1 to put good firmware file, use firefox to upload new file, IE won't work. Sorry for my flawed english...

Boom! Fixed! It's been so long since I've done that I forgot about the emergency flash mode thank you soo much upcock!!

The 1.5.11 firmware is too big for the DIR-601 and probably DIR-600

More features would need to be stripped out of the firmware file
for it to keep being supported
