Gargoyles bricks when power cycled. With vpn active.

Don't know if its just me. But every time I power cycle my gargoyle router it gets bricked if vpn server is running.
It powers up normally but then, I can't get any ip from the router's dhcp.
Tried setting my ip to manual and ping the router and it fails.
The only way I can get the it back is to go to failsafe mode ang reset the router by running firstboot script.

I observed that this only happens when, I setup the vpn server and have a client set of credentials configured.

Currently tried it with my buffalo wzr-hp-g300nh and TL-WR1043ND.
Downloaded the firmware several times still same issue. Even tried different versions of 1.5.x. Same problem.

Anyone experiencing the same thing?

Update :

Found out that bricking only happens when openvpn is configured with the credential re-use option set to "credentials are specific to each client".

My current setting now is "Credentials Can Be Used By Multiple Client" and the router is not bricking when power cycled.

Another thing I noticed with my old settings was that wifi seems to work. My wireless device can authenticate but cannot get any ip.

This could be a routing configuration problem, if credential re-use option set to "credentials are specific to each client".

regards

How long is it between when your VPN client machine restarts and you start using it.

Suggestion: Restart it and then wait for 30+ minutes. See if the connection happens smoothly

I just had this same issue with 1.9.2. Archer C7 v2.

Is there anyway to get back router without resetting and losing my DHCP configurations. I was just testing out the VPN but do not really need it.

The OP stated that

Does the same behavior happens to you ?

Please explain what exact steps did you take, and we can try to help you. It's also really important to provide a logread.

If the router still boots, you can manage to save some config files now, and manually restore them after a fresh install (if needed).

Yes, similar.

It powers up fine with lights active. However, I cannot login, ssh or telnet to the box. So I cannot do a logread. Pushing reset button on back seems to have no effect. Have not been able to do the firstboot process yet as I am worried about losing the ~30 IP configs in the DHCP settings. But that should teach me to do proper backups.

I use AdvancedIPScan tool that can see the IP but the normal HTTP service/daemon running is not there either.

I may be misunderstanding but I have 1.9.2 on a TL-WDR4300 with openvpn server running and client specific credentials set.

I've had no issues rebooting (I have wired and wireless clients) and can SSH in

I was using everything fine for a month or so. Then I configured vpn and router restarted. have not been able to access it again since. That does hurt my internet access, so put an old router back in place until I can try the wireshark tricks.
