Router dropping connection to phone

Hi,
I'm sorry if this has been answered before, I have no idea what to search for on the forums.
I have a problem with my router running gargoyle_1.5.10-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr1043nd-v1-squashfs-factory.bin. This firmware resolved pretty much all the problems I had with the stock firmware running on 1.8HW. However, I now have a problem with my phone, Galaxy Note 2. For some reason, the phone won't properly reconnect onto the router once it wakes up.
It doesn't drop a working connection when I put it to sleep if it's used in the mean time [let's say a web radio which works in the background with the screen off]. But if I put the phone to sleep, with noting using the connection it won't reconnect after I wake the phone back up. I can see that the phone is trying [green/orange arrows up top; noting upload/download activity] but nothing happens. I need to shut off wifi and start it up again. After the phone reconnects again everything works.
Any idea what could be the problem? I hope it's some setting I can change in the firmware. Thanks!
