Routers to use for repeating the same SSID?

What are some stable routers to be used for repeating the same SSID?
I don't want the repeater to have a separate SSID, but just want it to extend the range of the existing SSID. Looking for a router that is stable doing the above running gargoyle.

The model number/version of router and the version of gargoyle would be appreciated!

See that thread for some working routers

Now, what you have to be careful of is keeping the same type
of radio chipsets when you do this type of wireless

You want to pair Atheros devices or pair Broadcom devices

Do not mix and match Atheros and Broadcom - while they may work,
they typically are not as stable as matched radio chipsets

I have been using TP-Link WR740v4/Gargoyle as a repeater in the same subnet and using the same ssid (the main one is a Linksys-E2000/Tomato). It works fine for a few months now. So far so good.
One question I have is that it seems why pretty difficult to use Atheros based router as such a repeater (same subnet/same ssid) under Openwrt if both just differ in the user interfaces, while Gargoyle just works fine? I cannot use the same .conf files in Openwrt to make it work. So the question is, if there anything different in these two besides just user interfaces? How I can make Openwrt work the same way as Gargoyle for implementing the repeater. I like Gargoyle but it appears needing more flash memory.

The TP-Link WR740v4 is a 150Mbps router, any routers that do 300Mbps with two or more antennas that you have used that do the above type of repeating?

Thanks for that, didn't know the chipsets mattered.

This should work on 300 mbps routers also with Gargoyle.
I don't think radio chipset matters either.

Yes, but I was looking for 300mbps routers that people have used and have had stable/good results with.

I use a netgear wndr3700 ver.1 to do all my routing and a wndr3800 as a repeater on same ssid on opposite corner of house. works flawlessly for full coverage. clients that start out at one end of home and make their way to other end take their time switching over.. but they do switch over eventually.
