New to QOS wanting advice

Hello,

Just recently flashed my WNDR3800 and a first time Gargoyle user. Loving the various options available to me but a little overwhlemed with the QOS side of things.

Just hoping someone could point me in the right direction in what I need to do to have my QOS setup the correct way.

So, basically my connection syncs to the exchange at 13Mbit and for the most part this speed is constant. I do however, might experience a fluctuation (downwards) in some evenings. So I might see anything from 5Mbit up to my sync of 13Mbit during some nights of the week. Obviously my exchange has slight congestion.

So, we have 2 computers, 1 iPad, 1 iPod, a Playstation 3, laptop & an IPTV box that streams tv shows/movies at around 4-5Mbit (when we choose to watch the channels that require IP connectivity). The device does have FTA tuners as well which is mostly what we use it for.

What I'm wanting to do is give the IPTV device the highest priority when it is actually in use along side the PS3. The rest of the devices ie. iPads, laptops, computers I'm not too concerned about as long as the PS3 and IPTV box have the highest priority when they are in use.

So, if I have one computer downloading torrents at a full 13Mbit and the IPTV box is used, my computer running the torrents will slow down to give the IPTV and/pr the PS3 the bandwidth required to perform normally.

Could someone please give a noob some advice on the easiest way to do this through the Gargoyle GUI.

A million thankyous in advance for the assistance :)

It's a long write up but your best info is here:

http://www.gargoyle-router.com/wiki/doku.php?id=qos

Also - there are very similar questions in this sub-forum

There are 7 pages of multiple types of QoS questions / configs

Your answers will probably be found just reading through all these
old forum posts.

This will involve a LOT of tweaking, testing, more tweaking, etc.

Looking at your config - you really don't have a complex setup
and your main problem is that you are using torrents.

Torrents destroy a router - ALWAYS - no exceptions

Your simplest method is to lower the number of simultaneous
torrents, or control the torrent connection limits and or
torrent upload/download limits on that single computer.
You will save a LOT of headache, time spent testing/tweaking,
if you just adjust how you configure your torrents on the computer.
