Connection Problems/ D-Link FIOS and Xbox 360

I hate to ask for help, I really do, but I'm hoping a fresher and/or better informed pair of eyes can shed some light on things for me. Important points are highlighted for a quicker scan.
I'm running on a D-Link DIR-601 A1 on Rev. 1.4.7, connecting to xbox via wireless from a FIOS Actiontec I assume model MI424WR (why I assume in a sec.)
I Futzed with DD-WRT for 2 full days with absolutely zero success - multiple revisions, dozens of flashes and resets, read about some DIR-601 successes in the process and bailed for Gargoyle. I wasn't going to use DD-WRT's complexity anyway.
Had no trouble flashing, set up in Bridge/Repeater mode, and was able to connect to the router and had internet access via my laptop immediately. I switched over to the Xbox, and with a manual IP and DNS config, successfully connected to Xbox Live.
However, xbox doesn't like Bridge/Repeater , and is VERY slow without forwarding port 3074 (per connection-test suggestion). Which would be fine except - and here's why I assumed that Actiontec router model - I don't have access to the primary AP/router; I'm in a multiple dwelling building that provides Internet access. I've tried getting access in the past, but the landlord won't give me credentials.
I could probably do Client or Client + AP with DHCP, but UPnP is Off by default with Fios though I wouldn't like the security issues anyway, only without UPnP in DHCP I get DNS errors and no connection. I tried Auto IP and manual DNS with DHCP (192.168.1.1) , but it wouldn't accept that.
Am I just screwed without access to the primary router, stuck with a slow un-ported connection? Maybe it's just the limits of my network knowledge that are keeping me from seeing a Client + AP manual config solution (besides, I'd like the added functionality of the mode and plan on running a media server in the future), and maybe I'll figure it out as I research more - and my brain gets over being fried from DD-WRT. But if there are ready solutions out there, please, throw them my way.
Let me know which relevant details I left out, since I know there will be.
Thanks for your time.
BTW, thanks go out to this community in general; it's the previous posts, links to the OpenWRT flashing tutorials, and help provided to others that have gotten me this far as it is.
