Connection Problems/ D-Link FIOS and Xbox 360

I hate to ask for help, I really do, but I'm hoping a fresher and/or better informed pair of eyes can shed some light on things for me. Important points are highlighted for a quicker scan.

I'm running on a D-Link DIR-601 A1 on Rev. 1.4.7, connecting to xbox via wireless from a FIOS Actiontec I assume model MI424WR (why I assume in a sec.)

I Futzed with DD-WRT for 2 full days with absolutely zero success - multiple revisions, dozens of flashes and resets, read about some DIR-601 successes in the process and bailed for Gargoyle. I wasn't going to use DD-WRT's complexity anyway.

Had no trouble flashing, set up in Bridge/Repeater mode, and was able to connect to the router and had internet access via my laptop immediately. I switched over to the Xbox, and with a manual IP and DNS config, successfully connected to Xbox Live.

However, xbox doesn't like Bridge/Repeater , and is VERY slow without forwarding port 3074 (per connection-test suggestion). Which would be fine except - and here's why I assumed that Actiontec router model - I don't have access to the primary AP/router; I'm in a multiple dwelling building that provides Internet access. I've tried getting access in the past, but the landlord won't give me credentials.

I could probably do Client or Client + AP with DHCP, but UPnP is Off by default with Fios though I wouldn't like the security issues anyway, only without UPnP in DHCP I get DNS errors and no connection. I tried Auto IP and manual DNS with DHCP (192.168.1.1) , but it wouldn't accept that.

Am I just screwed without access to the primary router, stuck with a slow un-ported connection? Maybe it's just the limits of my network knowledge that are keeping me from seeing a Client + AP manual config solution (besides, I'd like the added functionality of the mode and plan on running a media server in the future), and maybe I'll figure it out as I research more - and my brain gets over being fried from DD-WRT. But if there are ready solutions out there, please, throw them my way.

Let me know which relevant details I left out, since I know there will be.

Thanks for your time.

BTW, thanks go out to this community in general; it's the previous posts, links to the OpenWRT flashing tutorials, and help provided to others that have gotten me this far as it is.

Update: I realize going back over the Client + AP wiki one glaring mistake that I've made - I neglected to assign an IP with a different subnet to the secondary router when switching from bridge to client. I.E. primary of 192.168.A.X. and a secondary (the flashed) router of 192.168.B.X.

But this will still be moot if the Primary/AP is running dhcp, right?

I'll have to re-config and try this out in the morning when my eyes are bleeding less. If I can get to it before work.

The router with the public IP address must either forward port 3074 to your XBOX or have uPNP enabled. Sounds like maybe you do not have access to that router so you are well screwed my friend.

Attempts to add other routers to the system will only make matter worse.

Yeeaaahh, I was afraid of that. If they won't give me credentials, maybe they'll accept instructions on how to forward the port for me. It would be easier just to have them turn UPnP on (one click), but I'd rather not do that.
