Hello,

I have a router across the street that is connected to my router at home (a Netgear WNDR3700-100PES). The router across the street is used by students that rent our apartments. Now, we are sharing our connection with them (don't ask, its cheaper this way).

Problem is, they bittorrent all the time and leave us here with a bad connection. My question is, if I install Gargoyle on the WNDR3700, is it possible to limit the bandwidth on the port that the students router is connected to?

And when I say limit, I mean, we have 10Mbps/1Mbps connection, I want to give them 50% of that, so 5Mbps/512Kbps. No more, no less. Simply limit them to some speed and be done with it.

It is not clear what you mean by "port" here. Do you mean one of the LAN connectors in the back of your router? Are you saying then that these users across the street are using a wire? Usually such setups are wireless.

Gargoyle can do bandwidth limits in many ways but not by which connector you are using in the back of the router. But there are several ways to use Gargoyle to solve your problem.

In this case what you should do is get a Gargoyle router for yourself. Then arrange for these folks across the street to have their own router which connects to yours. That way all their traffic will come to your router from one IP address. It is then simple to limit traffic from/to that IP address and thus relieve the load their traffic puts on your WAN connection.

Yes, I meant one of the LAN connectors. And yes, the users across the street are connected to our router via a very long FTP cable.

Yeah, don't know what I was thinking. They're connected to their router anyway, so I don't need to limit per LAN connector, just IP.

But is it possible to limit the speed in the way I described? For example, I want them to have a 4Mbps/1Mbps connection and nothing more, I don't care with what they fill that up, but thats the maximum I want to allow them... If I could do this, I'm a happy camper.
