Hi,

Is there a way to block viber on my home network?

I have tried adding a restriction rule in the firewall, blocking ports 4244, 5242, 5243, and 9785 to no avail.

Thanks.

The ports which are used by Viber are:
TCP: 5242 and 4244
UDP: 5243 and 9785

You should enable those ports (ingoing and outgoing) on your router and your firewall. If it is not your private network, you should contact the network administrator.

I stated to have a look at this but viber won't install on my phone

I would first block all ports then slowly open them and see what happens

sorry if it's an obvious question, but how do you properly block a port in Gargoyle? I tried blocking the above ports in firewall --> restrictions and created 8 restriction rules for each port (1 for remote port 4244, 1 for local port 4244, etc...) but viber would still connect.

is this the right way of blocking the port?

I think your on the right path but I suspect that viber might be using other ports?

block everything and work from there

Viber will try 5242, 4244, 5243 and 9785 first. When no connection can be established it will try 80 and 443.

Now you can’t block 80 and 443 or you will end up blocking every website. You can't block a specific IP since Viber is amazon cloud hosted so you have to block a range of IPs and hope none of the website you will want to access will fall in that range. If you noticed issues then unblock a few IPS you would want to access. Here is my block list which works as of today
Block this IP range 54.225.0.0 to 54.241.255.255 for ports 5242, 4244, 5243 and 80

54.197.0.0 to 54.241.255.255 for port 443
