I used the dd-wrt flashing page to upgrade my firmware to gargoyle experimental latest version for my router. The page said firmware flashed sucessfully, went to reboot. I waited. Nothing seemed to happen. I eventually power cycled the router. Now the power light flashes, DMZ light does not lite.

From DD-WRT wiki it sounds like I corrupted the bootloader. I have tried the resetting procedures. Pinging the router to find it. Checking arpd for the router ip. And finally I have tried shorting pins 15 and 16 on the intel flash chip. I haven't seen any signs of the router.

I'm thinking the only way to recover it is through the JTAG. Not sure why the firmware flash cause this....

It is unlikely your bootloader is corrupted. Modern versions of Gargoyle cannot be used on your router due to its limited RAM and this is probably the cause of your problems.

Shorting pins on your flash chip does not sound like a good idea to me and could lead to destroying your router I would think. Not sure what the theory behind that idea is.

You can also use the JTAG method and probably the serial method to recover your router.

The power LED flashes very fast. If it keeps on flashing longer than 2 minutes, without having lit up the other LED's, then a defective bootloader is present. However, if you can ping 192.168.1.1 (your router IP) you can try the TFTP recovery, otherwise you may need to open the router and use the JTAG recovery method below.

I fiddled around with it quite a bit last night, and could not ping the router, or see it using arpd or tcpdump. Therfore I think maybe the bootloader really is messed up.

Fortunatly I have some more routers laying around....
