TP-Link TL-WR1043ND -- installing Gargoyle on an existing Op

Hi There!
I have a TL-WR1043ND running OpenWRT for a while now. I would like to have a look to Gargoyle.
Of course I wont like to have to do all the set up again. Therefore I just wanted to install the Gargoyle packages on top of my existing OpenWRT installation.
As I understood in the documentation, this should always be possible. But my problem is, that the documntation explains only how to add the Gargoyle repositories for Broadcom or Atheros chipsets. But the TL-WR1043ND is running on an Atheros AR71XX. which will not function with the Atheros packages.
Nevertheless I tried yet to add the Atheros Rpositories, but as expected the opkg list | grep Gargoyle ---> lists the Gargoyle packages but states also that they do not support the internal hardware and will be ignored therefore.
My question now:
Is there a repository for Atheros AR71XX hardware and what is its url?
If this is not the case; Is there any other way I may enhance my existing OpenWRT installation on a TL-WR1043ND with Gargoyle?
Thanks in advance
THomy

Short answer - stick with OpenWRT
Installing Gargoyle as a package is going to be a LOT of work
It's better to just flash a Gargoyle image.
Now - depending what version of OpenWRT you are running, you
could possibly flash Gargoyle from the OpenWRT GUI
(use the sysupgrade firmware version) and try and keep the settings
No guarantee that would work 100% and you have to be on
Attitude Adjustment - Gargoyle won't work on Barrier Breaker yet.

Hi DoesItMatter!
For real I am running still BackFire 10.03.1.
If it is so much work to get Gargoyle installed as a package, I'll think about keeping on OpenWRT for the moment; or may give it a try to just flash a Gargoyle image hoping to keep my setup.
BTW: what OpenWRT version(s) are the Gargoyle images?
The documentation mostly names Kamikaze while I also saw a comment yet that Gargoyle is running on BackFire and you are talking about Attitude Adjustment so far....
I am also going to replace my TL-WR1043ND in the near future with a newer router model; maybe on this I can try out Gargoyle than. Actually I am thinkin in a D-Link DIR-825 or a Netgear WNDR3700, where the DIR-825 I am afraid (buying it now) will be a C1 which is a little complicated to get it work with OpenWRT / Gargoyle. For the Netgear I also found different versions which seem to have MIMO or not. So I am still not sure which router would be a good choice.
When I have replaced the TP-Link by another router I may move it to another location in my building to run it as a bridging AP for a better wireless connectivity. In this case a new configuration would be necesary and I could flash the fw.
So finally, thanks again for the quick response.
Regards
THomy

if i want to change the gargoyle v1.6.x to barrirer breaker of openwrt image, can i do it directly? or i need to do something else? i want to do this because a lot of wifi issues with all releases of gargoyle, maybe it's hardware faulty, maybe firmware faulty, i want to try another openwrt release to confirm hardware or software issue.
i'm not succeed to solve this annoying issue no matter what i'm doing, i try a lot of gargoyle versions on my tp-link router TL-WR1043ND V1.9
my boot loader now:
U-Boot 1.1.4 (Nov 17 2009 - 11:56:26)
U-Boot

You can change from any version of Gargoyle to any version of OpenWRT just by flashing the desired image.
But regarding WiFi issues, these are OpenWRT issues and you cannot correct them by going to OpenWRT. When they are fixed over at OpenWRT they get fixed in Gargoyle. The latest version 1.6.1 has the latest Wifi fixes from OpenWRT and the best chance of running on any hardware.

I've just flashed upgrade 1.61 on my 1043 v1. During flashing I realized that I'm flashing v2 upgrade!!!???. I didn't know that new model exists and downloaded v2 version by not paying attention. By typing this message you can see my router still works I can go to router web page etc... I can't see any differences. I don't recommend this (v2 firm on v1 hardware) with original firmware.

version 1.6.1 seems more stable than other releases, but if i want to transfer big files over wifi, it crashes and need to reboot the router again.
i'm talking about copy 1GB of data between two pc's , one on wifi, the target on lan.
i'm try to patch the wifi driver on the router itself by ssh commands, but it still occures.
