TL-WR1043ND won't respond after install

Hi.
I have been searching for help on my issue for the last hour, and could not find something that worked for me.
I installed Gargoyle 1.4.7 on a brand new TL-WR1043ND v1.10 (gargoyle_1.4.7-ar71xx-tl-wr1043nd-v1-squashfs-factory). The install went fine, but it did not come back after the reboot. the Power (PWR) light is solid green, and the LAN port that I have connected it to is lit up. The SYS light does not turn on. I have tried everything short of opening it up and trying to connect to it via serial. There is no response to ping to telnet over Ethernet. I can not invoke safemode or safeboot as there is no UDP response.
The weird thing about this whole issue is that I am able to ping 169.254.10.39 and it does respond to port 80 (blank page). But, I can not ssh or telnet on that address.
Any ideas on how I can unbrick my new device?
