Repeater/Bridge: TP-Link WR741ND and FiOS Router

Here is my setup:

Code: Select all

FiOS Router 802.11 B/G --(wireless)-- TP-Link WR741ND
Because of range issues on my Actiontec (the FiOS router), I want to use my 741ND as a bridge/repeater.

I have the 1.5.8 build on the 741ND, and have selected the following:
  • Wireless bridge/repeater
  • Bridge IP: x.x.x.2
  • Gateway IP: x.x.x.1
  • Connect via client bridge
  • Repeater enabled
  • SSID to Join: <my_ssid>
  • SSID to broadcast: <same as SSID to Join>
  • Encryption/channels all set properly.
My cell phone is able to successfully connect to the 741ND via WiFi, but my wife's Nook cannot. It also appears that successful connections are sporadic, and they typically fail on the authentication (but will succeed the 2nd or 3rd time around).

Does anyone know of any issues w/ this combo of hardware and Gargoyle, or am I better to drop to 1.4.7?

you might have better luck with 1.5.6 (backfire)

what's the recommended method to downgrade? flash back to factory, then 1.5.6, or can I flash 1.5.6 directly?

You can downgrade but you cannot keep your config file.

You should reset to defaults on 1.5.8
Then flash 1.5.6 from the GUI

Then re-configure fresh
