I have a TG585v8 modem with a TP-link WR841ND running gargoyle 1.4.7 which is working perfectly. I have assigned the public IP to the TP-link wan and its using static ip(wired) with the public IP. Its using custom dns IPs which I got from the TG585v8.
My problem is with my new DIR-825 with gargoyle 1.5.7 with identical settings as above attached to TG585v8 does not work, no internet access at all.
I also put gargoyle 1.4.7 on a WRT54GS with the TG585v8 with the same settings and no internet with that also.
So Im back using the TP-link successfully and cant work out why the other 2 routers wont work. :?

I think your problem lies in the fact you are using the public IP as the WAN IP which you should NOT be doing. Try using DHCP for the WAN and leave your upstream router's DHCP active.
