What software is loaded on the DIR-655? Possibly it or the modem is rebooting. Usually these devices have a web interface so you can see how long since reboot.
What is the purpose of the DIR-655? Plug your WR1043ND directly to the modem.
If your modem is DSL use bridge mode and enter your login information directly in Gargoyle. See

the story is we (me and two flatmates) share internet. monthly usage is 90 GB, and we wanna control their usage (they used 8GB a day). and i decided to assign 60GB for them.the speed gona drop if they reached limit.
my home used to have modem + dir-655(firmware 1.21ww), and wr1043 need connect to dir-655 to be used for my flatmates only. i am still using dir-655. I only have to set usage limit on wr1043, the entire local network should apply the setting, i dont have to worry to assign ip to ip range to limit their devices. and whatever the device they are using, add or remove, DHCP will do it for me and still applied rules.
the unstable wireless make it not very good to work.

Since there are no know problems with Wifi dropping with Gargoyle and many people are using the WR1043 I suspect that the cause of this issue is in one other other pieces of hardware.
It sounds to me like something is rebooting. You should check the webpage of each device to see if you determine if this is the case.
You should also follow my instructions above to see if it makes a difference or not. Even if you do not intend to use this configuration permenently it could tell you something about what is causeing your problem.

thanks.
finally, I decide to change the way of both router to connect each other. modem + wr1043(disable wireless) + dir-615(AP mode only),. it works great.

by the way, there is no sign that rebooting cause the wireless drop .
