I successfully install OpenWrt earlier on my TL-WR841ND 7.2 by installing the factory to OpenWrt firmware from the trunk first and then the SysUpgrade firmware, also in the trunk.

My issue began when I tried to install the Gargoyle WebUI by installing the gargoyle_1.5.6-ar71xx-tl-wr841nd-v5-squashfs-factory.bin firmware from the Gargoyle site. To do that I followed the directions I found here: http://www.gargoyle-router.com/phpbb/vi ... =10#p10193 and after giving the "mtd -r write /tmp/fw.bin firmware" command I lost access to the router. It wrote the firmware reset and then I couldnt connect to it anymore.

I was however able to get into the failsafe by following the instruction in the wiki (pressing the QSS button after turning it on). I tried the instructions under the failsafe wiki aswell. I tried mount_root,firstboot and mtd -r erase rootfs_data. After issuing those commands and rebooting I still was not able to ssh or telnet to the router under normal conditions. I can only telnet under failsafe.

Under failsafe I also cant seem to connect the router to the internet. I tried using both wget and opkg to download a firmware but the router could not get a connection.

Is there a way for me to load a firmware on the router through the failsafe mode to revert to openwrt or even the stock firmware? I cant scp to the router and only my Windows 7 laptop seems to be able to connect to it under failsafe. Both my debian PC's cant connect.

Any help would be great, I just need to find a way to get a new firmware on the router while in failsafe mode. Does anyone have any ideas?

How does the "sys led" work? after reboot, led blinks for while and become stable without touch anything?

After reboot the leds work normally. If I hold down the QSS button one of the lights begins to blink faster meaning its in failsafe mode.

Anyways I managed to find a way to unbrick my router. I set a static ip on my linux box and used telnet to log into the router. I think placed a new firmware on my linux box which has apache installed and used wget on the router to download the new firmware to /tmp/ Then I flashed the new firmware and fixed the issue.

Unfortunately I cant seem to find a way to install Gargoyle, only OpenWrt on my router. The firmware available here is v5 and I have a v7.2 router. So the router complains when I try to flash a v5 gargoyle firmware.

Try this to see if it works to you

I'm using windows 7, here is setting on your TCP/IP
ip:192.168.1.1
mask 255.255.255.0 gateway
192.168.1.1
DNS 192.168.1.1

connect your computer to router(ethnet port)
unplug the router power and plug it back. push reset button for 3 sec when you first time see the 'sys' led light up. then you will see the light blinks very fast. leave it blinking for while (1 mins), and unplug and plug the router again.

open your web browser(mine is chrome) and input 192.168.1.1, gargoyle UI should come out.

if you used to upgrade to gargoly successfully, it should work. I have lost connection with router for many times. it really work for me.

Thanks but like I said in my last post, I managed to unbrick my router and re flash OpenWrt on it. Its Gargoyle that isnt yet supported for my routers firmware version/
