I have a problem that I hope someone will be able to help me with.

I have the following setup:

An ADSL router that also has WiFi capabilities which is downstairs, setup with WPA & WPA2 encryption.

Upstairs I have a Lynksys WRT54G WiFi router.

What I want to be able to do is wirelessly connect the two routers, I believe this is bridging, and connect my PC via a cable to the WRT54G. This should, I hope, allow the PC upstairs to connect to the internet.

So in the Connection config page of Gargoyle v1.0.10 I have selected Wireless Bridge/Repeater and added the ip address of the ADSL router as a value of "AP/Gateway IP:". Under that I have selected "Connect as Client Bridge" entered the SSID of the ADSL router and selected WPA2 PSK as the encryption.

This does work and I can access the internet from upstairs. However when I tried to connect wirelessly to my network with my iphone or another WiFi enabled PC in am unable to do so.

Is anyone able to offer some advice? Is my setup right for my needs?

BTW I have tried setting up the WRT54G as a gateway but also when I ssh into the WRT54G I can see my ADSL router I can not ping it from the PC.

The mode you want to do is called AP+Client mode.

It will connect wirelessly to the client downstairs,
and then it will also be an Access Point for upstairs.

Currently there is an AP+Client bug, so the 1.0.10 may
work for you with limited success.

One main issue. Because you are connecting wirelessly
both directions, it does cut your effective wireless bandwidth
in HALF... i.e. for a 54mbps connect, your max that you
could achieve in the best conditions would be 27mbps.
Probably you'll bin the range of around 20-25mbps.

Thanks for the reply.

I changed the mode to Gateway and selected Client + AP.

Once the WRT54G finished restarting I lost internet access.

When I ping my ADSL from my PC I get "Request timed out.

When I ssh into the WRT54G and ping my ADSL router it see it ok.

Is there some sort of routing issue I need to overcome in order to connect to the internet from my PC?

You may need to manually set an IP, subnet, and gateway to access the router initially, and change any settings, then you can try and connect wireless.

Do you have your computer get a DHCP assigned address or a static address?

You want to goto the Router IP GUI and setup all the items.

The Client part can connect wireless to your modem

The AP part will issue another range of IP's via DHCP that should allow wireless clients to connect.
You may want to try WEP or no security first, for testing, then change to WPA or WPA2
