Quotas, DNS, Gateway not working

Where's the "Gargoyle for Dummies" section?

I seem to have several problems, and maybe they're all connected.
1) DNS lookup failures unless I manually set DNS on PC.
2) Quotas are not being counted and/or displayed.
3) No internet unless default gateway is set on PC to modem's IP.

Here 'tis:
Internet -- Satellite modem -- gargoyle -- [bridge] -- PC

Gargoyle 1.4.7 is on a WR841N v7.2
The wireless bridge may be irrelevant as my PC is LAN connected - the antenna connects another house 200m away.

I can not connect the modem to the gargoyle's WAN port - I simply can't get it to work.
I have read advice in threads http://www.gargoyle-router.com/phpbb/vi ... =11&t=1614 & http://www.gargoyle-router.com/phpbb/vi ... 3&start=10 but nothing seems quite suited to my particular problem. I have tried using different subnets, and while that should be workable in theory, I lose all connectivity with the modem.

I have read that possibly quotas will not work for traffic not going through WAN port. Sort of a roadblock for me right there. This could also explain my DNS & default gateway issues?

I am more than willing to provide any and all information someone might need to help me, but I am at a total loss myself.
Do I need to try making the different subset idea work?
Am I missing one simple key setting to make the WAN port functional?
So far this has taken me a week, and all I ever wanted was to limit how much data each device could use.

You are correct in that its the way your hardware is connected.

If the Satellite modem is not in the WAN port, then
all the DNS/Gateway and Quotas etc will not work.

You may need to check with the OpenWRT forums to see if there
is some way to get your modem working correctly on the WAN port.

Thanks for that. I was hoping it was something simple in the Gargoyle setup, but I am now in communication with my ISP, and have a techy mate coming round sometime to see what he can do hardware-wise :)
Fingers crossed!
