We've got a strange issue with our Netgear WNDR3700v2. It was working fine for weeks with multiple QoS rules but then the other day when i added one the router would just crash whenever it was connected to the modem. I disconnected it and restored the settings to a backup i took when i first set it up and it worked again; now it seems that every time we add a QoS rule, even if it's one we had before, the same crash happens.

Does anyone have an idea of what's happened? I don't see how we could be adding the rules wrong, and nothing's changed hardware wise and since we keep going back to a working configuration backup with the default QoS rules I don't know how the settings could be wrong.

I had a quick look around and didn't see this mentioned before so sorry if it's already been asked.

Unless anyone else says otherwise i'd be tempted to reset to default ->under system->restore default configuration.

Then redo all the routers settings, had todo this a couple of times due to a menu issue I seem to get but it doesn't take long as long as you have all your ip addresses for your devices and as importantly your isp login details etc.

Before you do this I assume you haven't got a crazy amount of rules? You may also want to backup the config should it be useful for analysis - though I suspect it won't

What I might do in this case is open some putty windows and tail dmesg and logread to see if there are any messages in either of these that might provide a clue. This behaviour has not been previously reported.

I also might try restarting qos from the manually to see if it will crash and then exactly where. You can do this by running /etc/init.d/qos_gargoyle restart

Thanks, what am i looking for with dmesg and logread? Should i get the router to crash and then run them when it restarts?

You want to catch what occurs before and when it crashes

So i should get ready before i apply the changes then run a few of these as it applies and record the results?
