Flash straight from DD-WRT to Gargoyle?

Hi,

I currently have a TL-WR1043ND v1.1 running DD-WRT, it has been 'ok', but not what I expected. I really wanted to use OpenWRT, and although I've used linux for years, I'm not comfortable with the cli initial configurations.

Having discovered Gargoyle now, I would like to use it. I've looked through the forums and do not see a reference to upgrading from DD-WRT, is it possible to flash directly from the web interface?

Regards

You should be able to flash via the DD-WRT GUI

Try this image first:

gargoyle_1.4.7-ar71xx-tl-wr1043nd-v1-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin

Then if you decide you like it, you can try the 1.5.4 image.

Thanks, I'll probably try it this evening.

I couldn't do it on my wr740n, the firmware upgrade would timeout in dd-wrt gui. I reverted back to the factory firmware, there is a revert file on dd-wrt forums for most tp-link routers. From the factory firmware I upgraded to gargoyle sysupgrade version.

Can you still flash from the DD-WRT GUI to this gargoyle_1.6.2-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr1043nd-v1-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin? The router model is TL-WR1043ND Ver 1.1. I will be shortening the file name before I flash the router so as not to get any errors. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

But isn't 1.72 still experimental. Or is it stable enough now to use?

the bin file would then be
gargoyle_1.7.2-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr1043nd-v1-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin

I'd say it's 99% stable.
I've never had a problem on the 1.7.X versions.

Check out the Show/tell/contribute forum for feedback on various versions.
Also the News threads have some feedback. Mostly positive :)

Thanks Lantis

Your help is very much appreciated.

I was suffering from "the Fear of the Unknown" disease.

I will be sure to check out those other Forums you mentioned.

Hi Guys

As a follow up I could not get my TP-Link TL-WR1043N 1.1 Router to convert to Gargoyle 1.72 from DD-WRT 2.X through the WEB GUI in DD-WRT. But was able to flash it back to factory through the DD-WRT GUI by using this file on the DD-WRT Site.

WR1043N(D) v1.x Webrevert - Back to stock tl-wr1043nd_v1-webrevert.rar 2013-04-24.

I then from the stock factory GUI installed Gargoyle 1.72. It works like a charm.

Good Stuff.

This link has a list of other routers that you can revert from DD-WRT back to stock.

Hope this helps as I had a heck of a time with this conversion.
