Increasing free space available

Hi,

I am using Gargoyle 1.5.3

I "upgraded" from a 5 year old WRT54GL, to a TP WR1043ND, because I needed the free space to install packages.

I found: http://www.rooot.net/en/geek-stuff/open ... enwrt.html , and have tried it, but am running into two issues after a reboot:

1. The partition I create on the USB gets mounted and shared out

2. Perhaps related to the above, pivot_root does not seem to work. I am not sure why, as I call the pivot before S59usb-storage starts

If there is a better way then the link above, I would appreciate pointers. In particular, I want to install dansguardian, which needs 2.5MB, and I have only 1.4MB available.

I have done (many years ago) opkg installs on /opt , but again, how do I convince gargoyle not to share out the /opt ?

Thanks

From my understanding of your post the features you require are already in gargoyle?

I was looking for dansguardian, or similar. I do not see any trace of it being already installed.

Thank you,

ispyisall,

Thank you for looking at the issue.

I do have extensive experience in building software, and using Linux. I have also used both ipkg and opkg in the past. I believe that opkg would be a perfect fit for my needs, since Gargoyle is based on OpenWRT.

The particular problem I face is that if I plug in a USB stick, and partition it into a 1GB area for installing packages, Gargoyle mounts and shares that out over CIFS. I think this is sub-optimal for my needs.

My first impression was that this was a bug in Gargoyle.

It is quite possible that I am using Gargoyle for a use case that it is not intended for, so this is not really a bug, but a missing feature.

My experience with Linux is on servers, where a mis-configuration means a reboot from a CD. With an embedded device, I am reluctant to throw random commands into the mix :-)

Is this (pivot_root) something I am doing wrong? Or doing the wrong way? Or is this not an intended use of Gargoyle? In that case, I think a stock OpenWRT may meet my needs better, at the cost of losing the simplicity of Gargoyle.

Thank you, once again,
