I managed to brick my TL-WR1043ND Bricked updating to 1.5.3

Now I am in process of getting the serial connection on the router, as per the URL http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr1043nd it recommends using DKU-5 usb serial connector but I have managed to acquire DCU-60 serial cable http://pinouts.ru/CellularPhonesCables/ ... nout.shtml

Would it work? Desperate to get my TPlink up

No, it will not work. You will need a TTL->serial(or USB) with a voltage of 3.3V, everything else can damage the board and will properly not provide you with correct data anyway.
