1.5.2 - 3g weak signal dropout

Hi

I've been doing some testing of 3g in weak signal areas

It appears, correct me if I'm wrong, that when a 3g connection is lost due to poor signal that a reconnection attempt does not happen?

I've created a cron job every 20 minutes

Code: Select all

0,20,40 * * * * ifup wan
The only problem with this is every 20 minutes is the connection will drop for for a few seconds.

Could we have a script that upon a dropped connection a reconnection attempt happens?

follow up

3g was reconnecting every 20 minutes as post above

after 12 hours of use I suspect my WISP temporarily disabled my account?

Started working an hour latter and have now turned off the 20 min reconnect

Just reporting

I've still been doing tests with this

3g signal is poor and drops out but also...............

My TP-Link crashes etc

I wondered if it had something to do with lack of RAM but my RS pro is not much better

Try to change your debuglevel and check the log.
Please post the log and if possible also the network settings.

This will make it possible for you to get the log right until the crash (and easily read it on your computer - for example on Windows with the free Kiwi Syslog server): http://www.solarwinds.com/products/free ... og_server/
But remember to install it on a computer that is connected with a wire...

And please post what 3G modem you are using, maybe I have one lying around, so I could test it.

update

since logging 3g has been very stable

I need to report my problem network

Code: Select all

3g -- RS Pro ( gargoyle 1.5.2) -- Engenius EOC-2610 (gargoyle 1.4.5) (()) client PC
The RS Pro does not have any wireless cards

It appears that my problem was with the EOC-2610 and gargoyle

I've now replaced Gargoyle with openwrt on the EOC and the network has become very stable.

This now leads me back the 3g having problem with my TP-Link and low memory?

antidote evidence suggests the problem might be with the WiFi drivers and not 3g

will continue tests

update

I've now moved location and the signal is now weaker.

plugging the dongle directly into my PC 3g works

When using gargoyle 3g starts to work then drops out after 5 minutes and then never reconnects

3g goes down and I get this on a manual restart

Code: Select all

root@Gargoyle:~# ifup wan
comgt 15:04:06 -> -- Error Report --
comgt 15:04:06 -> ---->                 ^
comgt 15:04:06 -> Error @117, line 9, Could not write to COM device. (1)

What 3G dongle are you using?
