How to Upgrade/downgrade underlying openwrt?

I'm experiencing some issues with wireless disconnects on gargoyle 1.5.0 with my Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH.

This wasn't happening before I moved to gargoyle from vanilla openwrt, but back then I was also on the earlier RC.

(I moved to gargoyle for the ease of use and qos features, which for the record are awesome.)

Anyway, I was browsing the openwrt changes in their trunk, and I did see that there have been changes related to the ath9k driver that's used in my router. This makes me think that if I can upgrade the underlying openwrt on my gargoyle install it would fix my wireless problems.

So i guess I'm wondering if there's even a way to upgrade the underlying openwrt?

Alternatively, is there a way to downgrade the underlying openwrt?

You should be able to downgrade from 1.5.0 to 1.4.3

Try 1.4.3 and see if it gets any better results.

Make sure you config from scratch, don't load the 1.5.0 config
into the 1.4.3 firmware. It should work, but to really test it out
a fresh hand-config of 1.4.3 should let you know if 1.5.0 is not
working for you.

Does 1.4.3 have auto qos?

Downgraded to 1.4.3 but still have wifi drop outs from time to time.

Was there a gargoyle based on OpenWRT Backfire RC5? I was on that and it was rock solid.
