forget it.
i thought maybe there were some adults here, offering to help people figure these things out. i guess i was mistaken.
Sorry dude

It really was a long post.

Can you summarise your problems?

You need to remember that everybody on this forum is/are volunteers and usually only scan the forums for posts of interest.

You need to make your post stand out like a newspaper article, interesting stuff at the top boring stuff at the bottom

i am not usually very reactionary, but this caught me by surprise.
i freely admit i was confused, rambling, flustered with reading for hours and hours(days really)... and having no success figuring this out.

so ok you got me, its true. its not even particular funny, if you think it is...then i say your sense of humor needs an upgrade =)

i cant be the first person to come here flustered , not making clear points, and ready to throw their router in the trash? i wasnt being rude, or rambling about anything other than this router, trying to get it to work. i've never gotten this thing to work properly after having it for months and messing with it over and over.

and regardless if you didnt have anything to say, or didnt want to read thats fine...thats one thing. i didnt force anyone to read or respond.
i wont claim it was easily read, or well written.
so even if its true, what good does it do to say?

when i came back to the forum and saw there were responses, i spent alot of time trying to load this page, while the router was dropping the connection and picking it back up. it took quite a bit of time to load this page and then only to read your snarky replies.

as for the router, i've given up at least for now.
maybe i will find a different version and reflash it. for some reason i dont think thats going to solve it, but its something to try.

and i dont know what the problem is, but its not functional, however its frustratingly close to functional.
i suppose thats the short version.
it drops and picks up the signal repeatedly, no matter what settings i use. the ramblings was everything i have tried, none of which has worked, and what i was trying to figure out.
it seems like it does it in a certain rhythm, like every so many minutes it drops, but i am not sure.

i can get the signal with the antenna straight to a usb adapter, so i am just giving up on the router for now and borrowing one till i buy one to be online. that same antenna is the one i was using for the alfa, so theres a steady signal there. the router picks it up, it works, then it drops it over and over again.

i'm still reading about this to see if i can find something that helps me figure out why it does this....but i have a lot of other stuff to do instead.
please feel free to ignore this if you would rather discuss my communication skills (or lack there of at times).

@leila

What firmware version did you try?

Your router looks very similar to the Accton MR3201a

For that router version 1.2.5 is a good version

I have seen good reports about 1.5.0 but its still early days

How did you flash your router?

Also your gargoyle router will be unstable if you use the same subnet as your xDSL router (assuming typical setup)

1.4.0

excellent info, thank you.

and yes i think they are extremely similar
same chip.
i read the instructions for that one, and a few others.
there were more than 4 different routers, that are apparently all very similar but slightly different.
there was no info about mine, but i got it in my head it would work being that it was like those.
alot of the other alfa devices are listed in different places of ddwrt and openwrt, that got me thinking it would be possible.

How did you flash your router?
using fon flash
i flashed openwrt, whatever was the latest, and then gargoyle.
i was actually amazed that i got it to work, or mostly work.

hmmm
have tried all kinds of different set ups, numbers, dont think this is the issue, but not sure. i changed it to be on a very different set of numbers than the incoming connection.

actually i wondered if it wasnt the reverse, and i should set it to similar numbers. when i tried to configure it as a repeater i set it to be very similar but different. i really have zero experience doing things like this, so i havent been sure of what to set all the numbers to...but i have tried every different way i could think of...

it still does the same thing - connecting, and theres internet there, but then dropping and picking back up again... no matter which numbers or different configuration i tried. idk, it could be something like this, but i think maybe its something else.
