TL-WR1043ND Gargoyle performance

I bought TPlink TL-WR1043ND and installed DD-WRT on it, but was not too happy with wifi performance. I was not able to achieve Wifi N and max throughput hovered around 2.5Mbps (only wifi g). I did not tested wired LAN throughput. Then I decided to revert back to factory firmware.

Now I am thinking of installing Gargoyle on the TL-WR1043ND, but have few question on performance.

1. Does Gargoyle supports Wifi N (with/without 40Mhz)?
2. What wifi throughput I can expect? Lets say I am sitting few feets away from the access point.
3. Anyone tested Wired throughput?
3. Does USB samba/media server works?

Thanks in advance.

Aside from wifi which is often worse than official firmware DD-WRT has been great for me in the past with various Broadcom hardware. OpenWRT/Gargoyle is a much better choice for Atheros hardware.

Yes but I found OpenWRT's wifi performance much better.

How long is a piece of string? There's so many variables one doesn't know or can't account for.

My first TL-WR1043ND v1.8's wifi performance was dismal on Gargoyle but the wifi was dodgey. I haven't flashed the replacement to OpenWRT/Gargoyle yet.

You're probably better of installing OpenWRT. It takes a while to get your head around installing packages and setup if you haven't used Linux but is well worth it.

I will most likely be flashing my TL-WR1043ND to OpenWRT as it provides better wifi control than Gargoyle through the webGUI (no I can't be bothered manually editing Gargoyle's wifi settings).

In contrary I think Gargoyle 1.4.2 on TL-WR1043ND is very stable. I can only recommend it. Great overall throughput.

Yesterday, I was able to achieve 16MB/s over wireless. I followed the instructions here: link
However, today I only get 4-5MB/s. This is unacceptable. Even the Aztech WL852RT4-T 150Mbps can get 8MB/s
I tried reverting to the factory firmware, the result was the same (4-5MB/s). Before this happened, I could get 10MB/s with the factory firmware.
I'm totally frustrated now. Any suggestion is welcomed.

What makes you think that link you posted has the correct directions? Also, you should at least be running Gargoyle 1.5.0 if you are looking for help here with your N router.

Sorry, the link seems to be ok at my side. I've printed it to PDF and attached it.

Actually, after flashing v1.5 with no improvement in wireless throughput, I flashed it to v1.4.3.

How are you measuring throughput? Run inSSIDer and post a screen shot showing the networks it picks up.

How I test:
Desktop: connected to LAN port
Laptop: connected to WLAN
Laptop: has a shared folder with a big file (~1GB)
Desktop: copy the shared file, windows 7 can show the copy speed

Expected:
Factory firmware (latest): ~10MB/s
Gargoyle 1.5: 16MB/s (as of yesterday)

Current:
Factory firmware: ~5MB/s
Gargoyle 1.4.3: ~5MB/s

inSSIDer: (VNK)

Can you tell us your throughput with stock firmware? with Gargoyle?
