maybe

https://www.mail-archive.com/openwrt-de ... 32888.html
There also reports that the latest firmware requires certain size images https://mail-archive.com/openwrt-devel% ... 32888.html. With this firmware, you must set IP to 192.168.0.66 before booting router. There will be small window where you see router ask for firmware image. After which resets.

Code: Select all

With the TL-WR3600 router, there is a catch: the stock firmware is obtained from the OEM: http://www.tp-link.de/download/TL-WDR3600.html#Firmware

The firmware image must have a certain size to be recognized as a valid image. Depending on your existing hardware/firmware revision, the file size must be exactly:

8,192,512 bytes for newer revisions (at least reported for rev. 1.4 and 1.5) - Use the image as downloaded, without stripping.
8,126,464 bytes for older revisions - Strip the firmware image to fit the correct size or get a stripped one (see below).
For those needing the shorter version:

in case the file name of this firmware file does not contain the word “boot” in it, you can simply revert back to original firmware
in case the file name of this firmware file does contain the word “boot” in it, you need to cut off parts of the image file before flashing it:

You can try the image from OpenWrt which should be "known working".
https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/ ... 9/generic/

Our images are exactly the same size as theirs, 8126464.

I suspect the router is accepting the image upload and then rejecting it for some reason.

If you're not keen to go down the serial route, i'm happy to buy the device off you and pay to ship it over here. Maybe once the weather settles down in your area.
Up to you, reach out here or on facebook.

@ispyisail if your wdr3600 is a v1.4 or v1.5, failing all else you might want to try TFTPing back to a factory firmware with an image size of 8192512 bytes. The earliest OEM firmware versions I've found with that size are 140916 and 141022:
- https://www.tp-link.com/resources/softw ... 140916.zip
- https://static.tp-link.com/resources/so ... 141022.zip

You still need to do the rename to wdr3600v1_tp_recovery.bin but don't need to strip the header from what I can make out.

The 2015 versions, especially the US variant, appear likely to lock things down pretty tight for reflashing via the stock UI's firmware upgrade function; hopefully the 2014 versions are still ok that way.

I'd gift I to you and pay for the fright myself :)

I used to solder on headers, but the last time it failed badly, so Im getting a bit gun-shy now. I think it's partly to do with my eyes going. Getting old :(

Let me try pythonic ideas, I don't want to give up yet :)

Guess what?

We are back in the game

I used the first link and it worked like a charm

You could tell right from the start it was going to work, lights flashed in a different sequence
