Hi, sorry if this has been posted a lot, apparently searching is disabled for WRT54GL...

I was hoping to find some reviews of people who have a WRT54GL ( v1.1, more specifically) with Gargoyle installed. I read the download instructions which recommend getting a router with 32/8mb ram/flash which is twice as much as the 54GL has.

I know what happens in a computer OS, but what are some of the problems that can occur with a router that doesn't have enough memory to run its firmware?

Instability, router crashing and rebooting on its own

Too many connections at once can overload the router and
cause the above issues constantly.

A 4MB flash 16MB router is OK for 1-3 users or a home
that does not do a lot of P2P / filesharing etc - just basic stuff

Hardcore/heavy users will constantly cause that router to crash.

And if you have a fairly fast connect, you need to upgrade.

A WRT54G-TM with 8MB flash / 32MB ram is not good at all for
any connection above 15mbit download speed.

If you have 20mbit or more download, get a newer router.
Your internet will suffer otherwise.

I have a WRT54GL v1.1, I use the latest version of Gargoyle without issue. My router has not crashed nor rebooted. I am not using QoS. If you already own this router, there is no harm in trying the latest Gargoyle firmware. If you are looking to buy a new router, then by all means get something faster with more ram.
