subnet mask can't set (wrt54gs)

Hi everyone
I find this to weird hope some can help or explain I have a linksys wrt54g router running 1.4.1 and I can set the subnet to 255.255.255.224 no problem.
I also have a linksys wrt54gs router when I upgrade it to 1.4.1 and try set that subnet address it says please wait while settings are applied for infinite amount of time but if I try set it to 255.255.255.0 or even 255.255.0.0 it updates fine.
If I downlevel to 1.4.0 then all is good.
