TP-Link TL-WR1043ND & 1.4.0 UPDATE

I have a TP-Link TL-WR1043ND running 1.3.16 and am thinking of upgrading to 1.4.0 to overcome the access restriction bug. Just wondering if anyone has the same router and has upgraded successfully. I did read one post where someone has 'bricked' their router after upgrading. Is there an issue with this router not having enough memory and if so, is there a way around the restriction bug without upgrading firmware?
