Wish/idea: blocking in /etc/hosts

I just stumbled upon this:
http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/

and though it'd be nice to have something like that on the router in a idiot-proof way. Think AdBlock subscriptions, only subscribing to such 'hosts' files like the one mentioned here and a nice interface to edit or add custom lines.

I tried the "zero"/0.0.0.0 version on my Gargoyle-powered Linksys WRT160NL and it works just fine :]

Is no-one apart from me interested in this idea?

I always use Hosts MVPS + SpyBot S&D. Works perfect, blocking ads and malware / spyware etc..

I copied that hosts file from someonewhocares.org

I saved a copy and transferred it to my router in /etc/hosts

rebooted the router and it worked

Not sure how you would do this through menu

But it stayed when I upgraded the firmware and kept old config

Not sure how much it would slow the network, but the hosts
file that I am using is about 310Kb in size.

One feature I do miss for the "Robin Mesh Firmware" is custom scripts

You put a script on a web site then users can put the URL link in robin/gargoyle and its done.

The overhead of the extra local lookup is probably small compared to the DNS lookups and downloading that would have been required to support the content that gets blocked. I think you'll probably see an improvement.
