WZR-HP-G300NH on v1.3.16 - WiFI issues on 40MHz mode

Hi Guys,

Here's my setup. I had experimented with several different channels but I could not get my thinkpad x61 to connect reliability, coupled with poor throughput and plenty of dropouts when configured at 40MHz mode.

No issues on 20MHz mode but throughput was less half of what I could achieve on DD-WRT. When connected via wired ethernet, I pull 17mbps from speedtest.net but on Wifi 20MHz I could only get 5mbps on the average. That is more than 3 times slower.

I would appreciate if WZR-HP-G300NH users could post wifi config here. I simply could not figure out what exactly is wrong.

WZR-HP-G300NH on v1.3.16

Clients:
Thinkpad X61 - Intel 3945ABG
Asus UL30VT - AzureWave AW-NE785H/Atheros AR9285

WiFi config:

onfig 'wifi-device' 'radio0'

option 'macaddr' '00:24:a5:ad:5c:b2'
option 'hwmode' '11ng'
list 'ht_capab' 'SHORT-GI-40'
list 'ht_capab' 'DSSS_CCK-40''
option 'channel' '3'
option 'txpower' '18'
option 'htmode' 'HT40+'
option 'noscan' '1'

config 'wifi-iface'
option 'device' 'radio0'
option 'network' 'lan'
option 'mode' 'ap'
option 'ssid' 'kousuke'
option 'encryption' 'psk2+aes'
option 'key' '********

jazz,

Check the DD-WRT wiki for Wireless-N configs and 40mhz/300mbps
settings and tweaks.

It's generic in that it should apply to any firmware.

When you are running 40mhz, you should only be choosing
channels 1, 6, or 11 for proper 40mhz operation

And of course WPA2-AES is the only encryption possible for that.

I've been immensely busy @ work, but I'll check speed settings on
my WZR-HP-G300NH and get back to you this weekend on results.

I've also compiled a build from the latest OpenWRT trunk and will
be testing that out this weekend as well.

No Gargoyle GUI unfortunately, but looks like the trunk has
updated kernels. Will test that out too this weekend!

Yeah, I'm only using WPA2-AES for wireless-N. Problem is wireless-G clients will not connect at channel 1, 6, and 11. In fact, I only manage to get them to connect on channel 3. That is very strange. I've looked at both DD-WRT and Openwrt wiki for wifi configs, I could not find anything else that is helpful to resolve my issues.

Ahh... that may be an issue.

I'll try do some test configs myself.

I'm not sure you can get solid 40mhz/300mbps links when also
using Wireless-G clients as well. I think the radio will auto drop
down to 20mhz/150mbps links if it has to communicate with G-clients.

Rather than me re-type what's been said - read that.

To get full speed 40mhz Wireless-N - you need an all-N network.

I'm still have the same issue despite replacing all wireless clients to those that support the newer N standard
