transfer settings between 2 different routers

I have a Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH and a Linksys WRT400N, both are running 1.3.16. The Buffalo is running great so far (3 days) but I haven't tried the WRT400N. So I was wondering if it is possible to transfer settings between 2 different routers with the same firmware. Can I just restore the settings?

Thank you for your comments and to all the people who contributed to the project, thanks for this great firmware!

No... No... and Unless you want to serial recover - NO!

Never restore a different router config to another router.

It will not brick, but will almost definitely be in a state where you
cannot access the web GUI and possibly not be able to either
Telnet or SSH in, meaning you will have to serial recover the router.

Besides, WZR-HP-G300NH is a single band router and the
WRT400N is a dual band router - very big difference right there.

Only restore configs for the exact same model router.

Thanks for your reply!
Is there a way to copy just the QOS setting from one router to another? With Tomato you could go to Tools | commands and run "nvram get qos_orules=" and paste the output into a different router running same firmware with "nvram set qos_orules=".

Thanks again.

Yes, there should be.

I don't know the config file, but you can do this.

Backup your current working config and save it somewhere.

Download 7-Zip - freeware archiver - VERY good

Use 7-zip to extract the config files to a folder and make sure you
keep the directory structure intact.

One of those will have QOS.

Backup the config of the other router somewhere else, and also
extract that file to a separate folder.

Replace the QOS file in that one, then re-compress with 7-zip.

It's a TAR first, then gzipped next.

You should be able to restore that.

Other option - download and use WINSCP to copy the file over.
