Installed 1.3.16 on a new WR1043ND

Received a new tp-link wr1043nd v1.8 hardware. Upgraded the stock firmware to 1.3.16 factory upgrade. The upgrade seemed to go fine, got into the gargoyle web gui made some changes (set password and corrected the time). Hit save and the router never came back. Just sits with sys light blinking fast.
Any ideas?

What happens after you reboot both router and PC?

I'm not sure if it's just my specific WR1043ND, but I can't flash any third party firmware's through the web gui. Gargoyle, DD-WRT, doritos version of gargoyl, open wrt. They all seem to flash fine, but then if you reboot the router it never comes back.
I can then put the router into failsafe mode and flash it using telnet and wget.
