Router identification

I have the same question as a previous post from 2009! It didn't get answered and I'm asking the same question.
Clearly this is here for a reason??
I see that the hostname appears in the top left below the logo... but other than that is is any use? And what about domain?
I had thought perhaps if I put say "home" in hostname and "lan" in domain, then I could browse to "home.lan" and gargoyle would intercept it and direct me to it's page (instead of browsing to the IP address). But it doesn't do that. So what exactly is it for?
