Problems update firmware via GUI

I've got what I suspect is an easy question to answer but I can't seem to figure it out after reading over the forum.

I've got a Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH router running Gargoyle 1.3.5, which is working pretty good. I noticed that I'm pretty out of date and there are a lot of specific fixes for this chipset in the newer versions so I wanted to update to 3.1.14.

I'm trying to flash to the newest version using this firmware: gargoyle_1.3.14-ar71xx-wzr-hp-g300nh-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin using the update firmware section of Gargoyle. Once I try to update I get a message that says it is uploading the firmware but it never seems to do anything else? Is this a supported method of updating Gargoyle? If not what is the best way to update the WZR-HP-G300NH router?

Thanks!

I should also mention I rebooted the router before I tried the update and my memory usage is @ 22.3MB / 60.5MB (36.8%) before I try to update via the GUI.

Try smaller jumps.

Go from 1.3.5 -> 1.3.9

1.3.10 had a huge code change.

If you can goto 1.3.9, then try 1.3.11.

Then 1.3.11 to 1.3.14

Try upgrading via that path.

Remember - NO reloading of old config with that huge of a jump.

Write down all your settings but DO NOT load your 1.3.5 config
into the 1.3.14 config - it will not work properly.

Thanks for the info! That does seem like a good thing to try next and I'll give it a try later this weekend.

I had read about not importing old configs so I took screenshots of all my settings so I should be good there.

Try showing each page of old configuration, then doing "save as" from browser menu (save local copy). This way, when you are re-configuring from scratch, you can open each saved page in a new tab, and cut and paste into relevant sections of new configuration. Much easier for things like MAC addresses than manually coping from an image (screenshot)

That seemed to work. I went from 1.3.5 > 1.3.6 > 1.3.9 > 1.3.14. For some reason 1.3.6 is the only thing I could seem to go to from 1.3.5.

Thanks for your help and good tip on saving the webpage instead of screenshots. That saves a lot of time. :D
