TL-WR1043ND v1 on 1.11 Can't Upgrade

I have been away for a while but want to put back this old router for a friend. I am trying to upgrade to 1.12 but after multiple attempts, it still stay at 1.11. The system LED flash during the update but no update take place.
I saw on another post that I may have to reset to factory first. Is that correct ?
