Firewall Plugins Addons

Recently i found a nice plugin BearDropper which i installed on my router and running well.
Are there any other plugins/addons recommend to use or modifications for the openwrt firewall of gargoyle?
Best i liked to have the option to email blocked ip addresses.
If this also would be in the GUI of gargoyle it would make life easier
Is BearDropper better then fail2ban? It looked more easier to me to install.
Would installing snort harm the network?
