Lets see how long we go for this time?
Still running perfectly here! Fast roaming is great ;)
Can you tell us more about your set up?

I use:
  • Same SSID
  • Different Channels
  • Same Passwords
What clients do you use?

I understand all Apple clients work perfect.

I've only got one of my android clients to work well. Most of of my other clients don't work as they as I understand it need to be fast roaming enabled.

What I've done is split the network into two. (Normal vs Guest)

The "Normal" i've setup as fast roaming and the "Guest" I push all other clients to.

Seams to work well so far?

Windows "fast roaming"

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/window ... nd-802-11r
Things to note
Not all Windows 10 devices support 802.11k, 802.11v, and 802.11r. The WLAN Radio driver must support these features to enable them to work on Windows 10. Please check with your device manufacturer to determine whether or not your device supports these features. In addition to device-side support, the network (AP Controllers and APs) must also support the features for the experience to work. Please check with your network administrator to see if these features are supported and have been enabled on the network in question.
So its going to be hit and miss

My ISP router (wifi disabled) goes through ethernet into my C7v2 (DHCP), C5v1 and WDR4300v1. All have the WAN port disabled and set bridged to LAN.

All three Gargoyle routers are set to AP mode, and have both 2.4GHz and 5GHz on the same SSID. Channels were all the same at first, but I have them set up differently now: 2/36, 11/44, 13/36. No guest networks.

My Nokia 8 (Android 9) works great; my Wife's Nokia 6.1 (Android 10) and Galaxy A8 too. The old Galaxy Tab S3 also works like it should. All Chromecasts (v1, v2, and 4x Chromecast Audio) work fine.

My Lenovo laptops both have Ubuntu 20.04 installed; my HP desktop, SolarEdge converter, Intel NUC, Samsung TV, and Dell printer are all ethernet wired. The Chromebook of my wife works fine too. The only Windows client is Windows 10 on my desktop which I haven't booted in a while.

I have a few Wemos D1 mini pro's too, which all connect fine.

I'd guess a lot of these clients don't support fast roaming, but all have great connectivity.

PS: I don't receive emails from the forum, so replies may be a bit slow.

Hi,
First of all, thanks for your work on Gargoyle Firmware.
Today I have upgraded my Archer C7 V2 US (from 1.10.x to 1.11.x and finally to 12.0.x) in every step of the FW upgrade, I have made the factory reset (after change the initial password).
Now I'm using the 12.0.x from zero (configurations is from the zero, nothing from any backup) without any problems (in 1.10.x he worked smothly, without any problems too), but I see the LEDs of Wifi (2.4 and 5ghz) are off, I made an reboot (to see if is some problem on the leds) and when the router comes back, the lights are come ON but after some time (seconds) they come to off.
I made some tests with 1.10.x and the lights are working like a charm, with this I come to think is kind of problem ou configuration on 1.12.x and come here to report this, to somehow help in this tests with this report.

 Try to look in the /etc/config/system file in OpenWrt 18.06 for how the LEDs are configured and compare with Gargoyle. If the LED information differs, enter the OpenWrt file extract here.

I can't look at it myself, I don't own this type of router, it's just an idea.

Hi RomanHK, thanks for reply.
So let's see if I understand the steps:
Download the OpenWrt 18.06 firmware, extract and compare with Gargoyle Firmware extracted.
After that I post here the configs, right?

Or do you mean "Download the OpenWrt 18.06 firmware and install it on C7, to after that see the configuration?"

Sorry if i did it wrong, but I have made the first (download, extract and compare).
In OpenWRT (openwrt-19.07.2-ath79-generic-tplink_archer-c7-v2-squashfs-sysupgrade) don't have the file System:
Image

In Gargoyle Firmware (gargoyle_1.12.x-ar71xx-generic-archer-c7-v2-squashfs-sysupgrade) we have the file System, but without anything:

So I opened my backup from version 10.1x and we can see the configuration of File System:
Image

Here complete on pastebin:
https://pastebin.pl/view/29ac83fe

If i put this info from File System of my backup (version 10.1.x) in File System from Gargoyle Firmware (gargoyle_1.12.x-ar71xx-generic-archer-c7-v2-squashfs-sysupgrade) and update my C7 with this firmware, it will resolve the leds problem ou possibly brick my device?

No. The file will not be created correctly until the router starts up - unfortunately, it is not enough to extract the file from the firmware :( .

With a bad /etc/config/system file it should not make a brick.
