TP-Link Archer C58

I have a spare TP-Link Archer C58 v1 router that I would like to install Gargoyle fw on. It supports OpenWRT since 18.06 up to 18.06.5.

I'm not sure which model/build to choose nor what the easiest way would be to get it installed - install OpenWRT first then upgrade to gargoyle for instance? The latest version of Gargoyle (1.11.0) is built on the correct version of OpenWRT (18.06) so I'm hoping it would be a relatively straightforward process.

There are no results for this router so I'm not sure if anybody has successfully tried install Gargoyle to it.

There is no current support for the C58 on 1.11.x, that is to say, we don't compile the image by default. You could add this image quite easily.

It will be supported on 1.13.x, which is currently in development. If you were feeling particularly brave, you could try it out.

Cheers for the quick reply!! I'll take a look but it's for a non tech savvy friend who just went through their 200GB monthly allowance in 4 days - presumably the kids performed updates to their Xbox games hence the need for a quota'd system. I had told him to make sure auto updates were off on the consoles but I guess I didn't make myself clear

What is the current stability like/Just how "brave" will I have to be? I'll try it out when I get home in any case.

I've been running the new version at home exclusively for 6 months. I don't have any issues, but I've only tested with a handful of devices. .

The only caveat (if already on some other third party firmware) is to not preserve settings in the upgrade.

A quick Google suggests it has a built in tftp recovery mode, so it should be hard to completely kill it.
