Hi, all. I'm super new to networking and am having trouble figuring out how to get everything to work.

I just bought a router from Gargoyle (great!).

My home network is set up as a FIOS router (it is a Fios-G1100) and an airport for backups (connected via ethernet to a LAN port on the FIOS router). The macs usually use the airport to connect to the internet.

In an ideal world, I'd like to use the gargoyle router I bought to monitor traffic and bandwidth of everyone, regardless of whether they use the airport or the FIOS.

I've read many helpful suggestions here and elsewhere but I have had no luck.

I've plugged the FIOS LAN into the gargoyle router (both LAN and the WAN) so I can get internet if I connect go the gargoyle router. But I can't seem to figure out the exact things I need to set (hardware or software) to get monitoring of what I want. I have read the information at <scenario-modem-link>, but to do that I need to "set the Modem LAN IP Address to 192.168.0.1 to form one node on a very simple network segment just between the Modem and the Gargoyle router" (and by this I take it to mean that I Need to go to the FIOS router and change the IP address, but have been unsuccessful in doing that) and have been unsuccessful.

I would rather not set up a no-bridge FIOS router because the information on how to do that is relatively opaque. But if there are good instructions on how to do that, I would do it!

Let me mention that FIOS router and Gargoyle have the same default IP by default (ie 192.168.1.1). For this to work, one of them needs to change the IP address. In other words, change the subnet (ie from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.88.1).

I meant that I tried both LAN and WAN on the gargoyle router, not that they were done at the same time (just trying anything at that point

I can get to the Gargoyle router GUI. I did change the IP address of the gargoyle router in the GUI (and it worked).

I had Internet / WAN set to disabled for one of my testing sets (I obviously don't know what I'm doing). I just changed it to DHCP / wired and my WAN info is basically blank.

I restored default configuration.

Only things I changed from defaults:

IP address of gargoyle router to: 192.168.10.1
I plugged one end of ethernet cord into FIOS LAN port
I plugged other end of ethernet cord into gargoyle LAN port

Try 1:
IP address on Gargoyle router: 192.168.10.1
FIOS router connection: LAN
Gargoyle router connection: LAN
Gargoyle switch: right
Can see gargoyle network? No
Can connect to 192.168.10.1? No

Try 2:
IP address on Gargoyle router: 192.168.10.1
FIOS router connection: LAN
Gargoyle router connection: LAN
Gargoyle switch: left
Can see gargoyle network? No
Can connect to 192.168.10.1? No

Try 3:
IP address on Gargoyle router: 192.168.10.1
FIOS router connection: LAN
Gargoyle router connection: LAN
Gargoyle switch: tried both [left works; right makes Gargoyle SSID disappear]
Changed wireless mode from "Disabled" (the default) to "access point" (AP)
Can see gargoyle network? YES
Con connect to gargoyle network? YES
Can connect to 192.168.10.1 when connected to FIOS? NO
Can connect to 192.168.10.1 when connected to Gargoyle SSID? NO
(Can not ping anything anywhere, but full access to internet (weird))

Try 4:
IP address on Gargoyle router: 192.168.1.10 ** changed **
FIOS router connection: LAN
Gargoyle router connection: LAN
Gargoyle switch: left
Wireless mode is "access point" (AP)
Can see gargoyle network? YES
Con connect to gargoyle network? YES
Can connect to 192.168.1.10 when connected to FIOS? YES
Can connect to 192.168.1.10 when connected to Gargoyle SSID? YES

At this point I thought I realized what the "Code:Select All" meant:
those were the physical connections. So I left the FIOS router as is and hooked up the Gargoyle router. And then, of course, I couldn't see anything since I didn't have an access point so plugged in a PC with an ethernet cord. I was sure I had it now since this was something I hadn't tried yet! But ...

Try 5:
IP address on Gargoyle router: 192.168.10.1 ** changed **
FIOS router connection: LAN
Gargoyle router connection: WAN
PC Computer connected to Gargoyle LAN via ethernet
Gargoyle switch: left
Wireless mode: "Disabled" (the default)

At this point everything stopped working. I could not access the Gargoyle router. I could not connect to 192.168.10.1 in any configuration. I'm not sure how I could have scrogged the router?

And now have no way to access my Gargoyle router at all -- my FIOS router still works fine (whew).

Im not sure how this is ever going to do what the initial poster wants. Surely Gargoyle cant monitor bandwidth and use of clients not attached by DHCP to the gargoyle router? In the scenario above only clients connected directly to the gargoyle router will be monitored and not those on the FIOS or airport.
