Using my old Gargoyle router / WR1043ND with OpenDNS

I 'd like to use OpenDNS (or something similar) but have not used my gargoyle router for a couple of years ever since Telstra upgraded me to the NBN (and included a new modem). Yesterday I found out that my new modem / router which is a Technicolour DJA0231 does not allow an IP address to be specified for the DNS servers. Will my old Gargoyle router fix this? It is a WR1043ND.

Is it a simple process to reinstate the Gargoyle router?

Or is there some other way to monitor websites being visited by the kids?

Here are some details I just copied off the router:
Gargoyle Version:1.9.X (Built 20160924-1943 git@093be12)
Model:TP-Link TL-WR1043N/ND v3
Is that version ancient or will it do?

Current IP address of the Gargoyle router is 192.168.1.1
My Telstra Technicolour router is 192.168.0.1

Yes that will be fine to use.

Telstra NBN connections use DHCP so you can actually just set the Telstra modem to bridge mode and have Gargoyle do everything for you.
Note that in bridge mode the 4G backup of the TLS Smart Modem will be disabled, as will the voice ports on the modem.

If this is a problem, don't use bridge mode.

As an additional note, that version is old and has several well known security vulnerabilities, and you would do well to upgrade it at your next convenience.

Got it sorted. Cheers.

Though I see that indeed my phone line no longer works.

Now if I could just get OpenDNS to work I could retire to bed. That said I think I'll hit the sack anyway.

Any tips appreciated and I'll work on it tomorrow. Think it must have to do with the dynamic IP address.

I am currently using an older version.
Gargoyle Version:1.9.X
Of the options you have shown 'OpenDNS FamilyShield' is not displayed. 'OpenDNS Servers' is but that does not allow me to put in an IP address for the DNS server. 'Custom DNS Servers' also appears and I have entered DNS server addresses as specified at the OpenDNS website but that does not seem to work.
