Must config restore be done on same hardware?

Our community radio station is running Gargoyle on a TP-Link TL-WR1043N/ND v2, which we bought pre-configured from the Gargoyle shop. It's fairly critical to day-to-day operations, and we've done a lot of configuration to the router settings to get it to work well in our situation. But if that router breaks, we'd be in a bad spot. A question: if we back up the router's config, can it only be restored to the same hardware -- IOW, should we be looking for another TL-WR1043N/ND v2 -- or can the settings be put back into any router running the same version of Gargoyle?

In my opinion its better an faster to reconfigure from scratch on new hardware.

Many security issues with old firmware.

Current firmware on current hardware

Same model, same firmware version, OK.

Any of those things don't match and i don't recommend it.
