I installed the above on a TL-WR1043ND-V2 recently.
I have a 3TB seagate drive attached and have the plugins root setup on this.

I am heavily using the dlna feature and In addition to this i also have a directory on the drive shared out as cifs and nfs shares to easily transfer data.

Every few days/weeks the DLNA server goes missing off the network and when i look in gargoyle the mindlna service could be stopped altogether. I did once see an error in the log and i think it was related to a known issue with mounting in OpenWrt, stupidly i failed to save the error.

I have also seen it where my plugins appear to be installed (as per page in gargoyle gui) but do not appear in any of the menus on the left. A reinstall of the plugin sometimes fixes this.

I have also see this behaviou pull down my wifi network.

Has anyone seen anything like this before ? I am think of reverting back to a 1.9.0 build when i didnt have many issues.

Any help would be grately appreciated.

Ok, ive had some time to let this settle down and there are definately issues to report.
I recently reinstalled and left plugins_root as default on root partition, i also added 2 usb drives, one for transmission(16gb) and one for dlna (3tb) use.
Both drives are shared out with cifs/nfs/ftp.
While transferring data using filezilla i have experienced numerous connection issues and have on 2 occassions had the router self reset ! It goes into a firstboot type of reboot.

I have not been able to pull logs nor debug information as its
a little late then but i suspect its the vsftp causing the issues specifically the ftp setup. This could be because of drive issues of course but it was working fine on 1.9.0 on a tplink 1043ndv2 for a long time

I am really grasping at straws as to whats the best thing to do here. I would like to get to a stable platform to then isolate the root cause. I was considering about the following actions

* flash recovery the router
* install 1.10 or should i consider 1.11.X ?
* wait and reboot
* setup 2.4 and 5 GHz(i do have many android devices, a problem?)
* wait and reboot
* reformat usb drives in gargoyle, ensuring correct block alignment in fdisk - or should i use gparted etc externally ?
should i add swap space explicitly on these drives, if so whats optimal, 1%?
* setup shares - i am not a fan of the gui on this , can i follow openwrt guides on manually creating NFS/Samba shares ?
* test and debug

Has anyone got any additional recommendations ?

I’d say that your router is running out of RAM or hitting a related bottleneck crash. Serving connected hard drives is taxing.

But as always if you can come up with a way of crashing it every time, I’ll look into it.

If you don’t set things up via the GUI I can’t help as much. If you think the GUI does something wrong that should be changed then let us know.

This router has 128 mb Flash/256 DDR3 RAM so if ts running out it must be a severe memory leak or corruption. I simply installed with deafults and set up 2 usb drives. usb1 is 16gb ext4 formatted in gargoyle 1.10 with swap, usb2/sata is 3tb ntfs formatted in windows.
I also noticed that the output of fdisk -l warns that the 3tb drive is not aligned, its using 512 but configured with 4096 blocksize. The 16gb is 512/512
I realise openwrt does not recommend using ntfs at all ( https://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/stor ... _hard_disk ) and the perofmrace is poor in comparision to ext4 ( https://forum.archive.openwrt.org/viewt ... =1#p125966 ) but this drive has been working perfectly on a tplink 1043ndv2 with 1.9.0 for a long time.

I think the best course is for me to see if i can reproduce on the 16gb drive if not ill swap usb ports and retry.
If it clearly is drive related i could reformat with ntfs on the 16gb and try to reproduce. If all else fails i will reformat the 3tb with ext4 on gargoyle and configure 1% swap.

There are also a bunch of settings to review in /etc/sysctl.conf

As for what happended ? The filezilla log clearly shows a fatal error. It fell off a cliff

Just a quick update:

I was able to reproduce the issue with filezilla copying 1.2gb file to the ext4 formatted usb drive. I also had no wifi active on the router just to eliminate that as a possibility.

The copy got to 62% and fell over, router reset to factory.
Strangely, i reconfigured the ext4 usb and re-transferred several minutes later and it worked so im not sure where the issue is.
Could it be something within the USB Storage GUI config ?
I guess a way to test would be to reset and configure via
command line and retry. The only way to fully pinmpoint the error would be to JTAG with usb uart, which i could look into.

In the meantime i have decided to install 1.11.X and see if that behaves differently. I did notice immediately that in 1.11.x a reformat of the usb drive lists the disk not as a Linux but as VMWare type. So what is the format command executing ?

The same as it always has. That section of code hasn't changed for 1.11.x
