How to deal with CDNs

I'm using Gargoyle router to filter traffic for my children's iPads and laptops. I've found it much more difficult than thought to do this. For instance, I may find that an app or website uses an initial website like example.com but that most of it's traffic actually occurs using a CDN (content delivery) like akamai or CloudFlare, etc. If I unblock one particular IP address or hostname associated with the CDN, very often, this IP/name will change the next day. It's even possible that as IPs/names change, I would end up unblocking traffic to something that I really don't want my children to have access to.

I was just wondering if someone else had been down this road before and found some shortcuts or tricks to make this process simpler.

Thanks!

Depending on the kind of content you're trying to block, maybe Parental Control via DNS? Never used it, but maybe it's worth a shot.

Here are some free options.

Blocking only specific sites (e.g. Facebook.com, Youtube.com, etc) doesn't work anymore.
