Flash LEDE over Gargoyle and vise versa

Router: TL-WR1043ND V.1(.8)
Can i use the sysupgrade.bin from LEDE to flash my router.
If i don't like LEDE can i simply use the sysupgrade.bin from Gargoyle or do i have to go to the stock firmware every time?
Is it also possible to migrate settings?
I never ever want to brick my beloved 1043ND
